Facebook has a pretty big following, and if you don’t believe me, check out these statistics:
If your business is active on Facebook, it means you invest a lot of time and energy, and possibly advertising dollars, managing your page to engage, build a fan base and create interesting content. It makes sense that you would want to share more of that content on your website and you might want more than a simple button!
I have installed the Facebook Like Box on a few sites and was able to change the size and shape of the resulting box by using a tool from Facebook. The Like Box is a special version of the Like Button designed only for Facebook Pages that provides code to embed a simple feed of content from a Page onto your website.
Here is how you do it.
1. Click on this link for Facebook Developers (link no longer available)
2. Enter your Facebook Page URL and hit enter to see a display of your Like Box. You can modify the width and height, as well as select a dark or light color scheme. When it is how you like it select the Get Code button.
3. Select the code your website uses from the options: HTML5, XFBML, IFRAME, or URL. I typically use the IFRAME option, but your website developer can tell you which you need or can do this for you.
4. Copy the text displayed in the popup window and place it on your website, or into a program like Notepad to send it to your web developer.
That’s all there is to it.
[Update January 2016] With the changes in Facebook the new way to get this functionality is to use this Facebook Page Plugin tool.
